Environmental Pollution:
The addition of any substances or form of energy, for example (heat , sound, and radioactivity) to the environment at a rate faster than the environment can accommodate by dispersion, breakdown, recycling, or storage in some harmless form.Types of Environment Pollution
There are various types of pollution which include:
- Air Pollution.
- Water Pollution
- Land Pollution
- Noise Pollution
Others include:
- Air Pollution:
This is the addition of harmful substance to the atmosphere resulting in damage to the environment, human health, and quality of life. Air pollution occurs inside homes, schools, and offices; in cities; across continents and even globally.
- Water Pollution:
Contamination of streams, lake, under-ground water, bays, or ocean by substances harmful to living thing. Water is necessarily for life on earth. All organism contains it; some live in it, some drinks it,. Plants and animals requires water that is moderately pure and they can't survive if their water is loaded with toxic chemicals or harmful micro-organisms.
- Environmental Pollution:
This involves the deposition on land of soil wastes. for example, used cars, cans, bottles, plastic containers, papers that can't be broken down quickly or, in some instances cannot be broken down at all by the action of organic and inorganic substances.
- Noise Pollution:
Unwanted sound, or noise, such as that produced by airplanes, traffic or industrial machinery.
- Visual Pollution:
Visual pollution refers to the presence of overloaded power lines, motor way billboard, scared land forms, etc.
- Environmental Pollution:
Thermal pollution refers to a temperature change in natural water bodies caused by human influence, such as use of water as coolant in a power plant.
Radioactive contamination such as nuclear power, penetration, nuclear weapon search, etc.
Sources & Causes of Pollution
- Motor vehicle emission.
- Petrochemical emission,
- Oil refineries.
- Nuclear waste disposal activity.
- Large livestock farm e.g dairy cows, pigs etc.
- PVC Factories.
- Plastic Factories.
- Coal Fire Power Plant.
Effects of Environmental Pollution
- Natural disaster e.g Hurricanes.
- Respiratory Diseases.
- Chest pain.
- Depletion of The Ozone Layer.
- Deadly Effect of Human & Eco-system.
Pollution Prevention
- Incorporating pollution prevention into federal legislation.
- Develop innovative pollution prevention programs.
- Educating the public about pollution prevention.
- Train relevant groups in the technical aspect of pollution prevention.
- Integrate pollution into departmental policy programs.
- Establish and implement green policies.
- Promote pollution prevention through refocused research and demonstration initiative.
- Develop practical tools such as guidelines and code of practice to aid pollution prevention.
- Review legislation and policy to harmonize approaches to pollution prevention.
- Establish a commission of the environmental advance pollution prevention in the federal government system.
